RTI Power:After 6-month gap, Samajwadi Party government restarts Janata Darshan

LUCKNOW: One week after an RTI query showed the Samajwadi Party government had not hosted even oneJanata Darshan programme in six months, the UP government announced on Monday that the programme will be held on June 4, albeit in the absence of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. 

A government release on Monday evening said, "The chief minister will remain in Delhi for an additional day owing to a meeting. In his place, however, the Janata Darshan programme will be hosted by ministers and senior officials of the state government." 

One week ago, an RTI query, filed by Lucknow-based activist Urvashi Sharma had found that only seven Janata Darshan programmes were held at 5 Kalidas Marg since the SP government was sworn to power in March 2012. The mass contact programme was originally started by SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav when he was chief minister of the state.
