Madras High Court rectifies its order : "No need to give any reason
for requesting the information" asserts High Court in rectified order


The Madras High Court has on 23-09-2014 (Tuesday) rectified a portion
its own order dated 17-09-14 in which it had said that the person who
seeks information under Right to Information (R.T.I.) should state the
reason for doing so.


"An applicant making a request for information shall not be required
to give any reason for requesting the information or any other
personal details except those that may be necessary for contacting
him," the bench, comprising Justices N Paul Vasanthakumar and K
Ravichandrababu, said on Tuesday while hearing a sue motto review
application.


The bench noticed it had made an error in its order dated 17-09-14 and
rectified it on Tuesday saying Section 6(2) of the R.T.I. Act, 2005,
does not say that the person seeking information has to submit
details.
